Angels have Rangers to worry about

Over the past decade, the Los Angeles Angels have pretty much dominated the American League West.

However, it appears that things are about to change, as the up-and-coming Texas Rangers are making a run this year.

The Rangers are in first place in the division right now and have really shown no signs of slowing down.

We’ve seen brief periods of solid play from the Rangers in the past, but they eventually collapse because of major pitching problems.

It could happen this year, but it looks more than likely that the Angels will have their work cut out for them to win the division yet again.

Guerrero close to return

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vladamir Guerrero is getting very close to returning to the team after tearing a pectoral muscle and missing more than a month of action.

The star outfielder has been swinging a bat and taking batting practice for more than a week now and has already started a rehabilitation assignment in the minors.

He went 2-3 with an RBI in his most recent game and the team is hopeful that could possibly be activated from the disabled list as early as Monday (Memorial Day).

The Angels have played better of late, having climbed above the .500 mark and moved into second place in the American League West. They have closed the gap on the Texas Rangers, and Guerrero’s return can only help.

Guerrero taking batting practice

The Los Angeles Angels received some positive news as injured outfielder Vladamir Guerrero has begn taking batting practice and hopes to return to the lineup shortly.

Guerrero has been out after injuring his pectoral muscle and was unable to swing a bat until it healed.

The team said that Guerrero had an excellent session in the batting cage and they were really happy with the shape he is in despite being sidelined with the pectoral tear.

He has been out since April 16, and it was expected to be about a month or so until he could pick up a bat and swing it, so the Angels feel that he is right on schedule.

They could certainly use his big bat back in the lineup, but they don’t want to rush things too much with the veteran and risk a setback.

Kendrick hits inside-the-park HR

Anaheim Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick performed a rare baseball feat, hitting an inside-the-park home run in the team’s 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.

The home run was a key part of the Angels victory, which halted a six-game win streak over the suddenly hot Royals.

Kendrick thought nothing of the play at first, as his fly ball to right field would likely result in either an out or a single, and he leisurely jogged down the first base line.

However, right fielder Jose Guillen overran the ball, and Kendrick kicked it into high gear, sprinting around the bases as fast as he could. He ended up coming into home plate standing up.

Manager Mike Scioscia wasn’t pleased with Kendrick’s lack of hustle at first, and mentioned it to him after the play. I can only imagine how mad he would have been had Kendrick not scored.

Angels lose Guerrero

As if this first month of baseball hasn’t been hard enough on the Los Angeles Angels, now they’ve lost their fading star to an injury.

Slugger Vladamir Guerrero tore a pectoral muscle and will miss at least the next month of baseball.

He can’t really do anything other than let the injury heal for the next few weeks before he will be allowed to start swinging again.

Guerrero is getting older and entering the twilight of his career and is no stranger to various injuries.

The fact he is hurt so early in the year is major cause for concern for the Angels, who are dealing with numerous injuries already.
